“To date, air pollution – both ambient (outdoor) and household (indoor) – is the biggest environmental risk to health, carrying responsibility for about one in every nine deaths annually.” WHO – 2016
Scientists, every year, get precise data about our environment and its risks. Many articles are published and provide a clear and alarming situation: air pollution is the leading environmental cause of disease and premature death in the world! Simultaneously, with global warming, it becomes important and essential to cool down the atmosphere. If trees and green areas management can drastically help urban cities to improve air quality, indoor plants are quite amazing to do a similar job!
POWERFUL PLANTS
Moving from a spacious place to a tiny one might scare you. Certainly due to minimizing your needs or any personal reasons. We easily get attached to our personal environment but we easily adapt to another environment as well! You will surely get rid of many unnecessary things (for your own good) but having plants in a tiny house is not negotiable.
Moving in a tiny place won’t reduce the risk of air pollution even though they are well known to be made by natural materials. Particles are unfortunately flying everywhere, your eyes cannot see but your body can feel it. Mother nature, though, doesn’t let us down… never!
#1 FOR HUMIDITY
Humidity is a natural process, hard to avoid it but also hard to live with it. Its intensity can change according to your environment as a tiny house on wheels has the capacity to move wherever you want. Unless you are a humidity detector (I doubt that), it is difficult to know in advance humidity concentration. Despite its high-quality building, a tiny house, as any other houses, can have this issue as well.
To solve this problem, the plants are so amazing. If you do not know this yet, please try and adopt! Easier, cheaper, and most importantly, more natural than dehumidifiers. They will efficiently clean off the area. In other words, providing a good balance. Not too high humidity but enough to become a healthy zone.
Basically, most plants absorb moisture from the air through their leaves, they need it to feed their roots. Nevertheless, some of them make a difference by highly reducing the clammy air. Surround your bed by those plants and let their power proceed. Moisture will decrease to improve your breathing and allow you to have a peaceful night… Your bathroom might need them as well, “window + plant” is definitely the winning team!
Peace lily, English ivy, Boston fern, Parlor palm and more… to transform your tiny house into a beautiful greenhouse!
A little tip: humidity appears all year so open fully your windows twice a day during 5-10 minutes. Fresh and clean air will come in while hot and humid air will come out. I know winter is cold, trust me, but we need some sacrifices to survive. Right?
#2 FOR PURIFYING
Human beings love walking around in a forest. It feels good, refreshing… You don’t believe me? Next time, pay attention to yourself during a forest trip, you will see! The good news is that you can copy this cool atmosphere, you know, coming back home and feeling perfect. Plants in the tiny house will purify the air, chase off particles and keep you safe. Their second greatest advantage. By far.
Due to the air entering through your windows, to your furniture, to your clothes… volatile toxic products are part of you. A little bit scary as they are officially quite dangerous for our health. But again, plants can partly protect your living environment!
Their leaves, by absorbing the air, will automatically catch those particles and keep them inside, lock them up! While they slowly do their job, they also transform carbon dioxide into oxygen by photosynthesis. Breath in co2 and breath out oxygen. This chemical reaction allow to rise up your air quality because of plant’s sanitizing property. Might sound complex but it is a natural process with many benefits!
Rubber plant, Dracaena “Janet Craig”, Philodendron, Ficus Alii and more… to place around without moderation!
#3 FOR RELAXING
Gardening is meditating. The only fact to take care of your plants ease wellness and relieve you from anxiety. As well as greener place will naturally help you relaxing, decreasing blood pressure and lowering stress levels. Plants in the tiny house give a cozy aspect, a soft cocoon in which you want to spend time, to disconnect.
Despite little space, you have many options to spread plants around! Hanging, walls, windows… it is your chance to be creative!
Do not forget, nature is powerful no matter where you are. We run after time whereas we should slow down, listen to ourselves and take us back to basics.
